In April of 2023, CEF hosted school tours of Catholic elementary and high schools which offered a unique opportunity for our trustees to witness the impact of the Catholic Education Foundation. The week-long event began in the San Pedro Pastoral Region with Saints Peter and Paul School and Mary Star of the Sea High School. The tours continued the following day at St. Thomas the Apostle School and Bishop Conaty – Our Lady of Loretto High School, in the Our Lady of the Angels Pastoral Region. We continued the week in the San Gabriel Pastoral Region at Santa Isabel School and Bishop Mora Salesian High School, with the final day visiting Nativity Catholic School and Bishop Amat Memorial High School.
Schools showcased their students and unique programs. Bishop Conaty has a one-of-a-kind music production program where their girls learn to create and record music. Nativity provides an Inclusion program for children with special needs. St. Thomas the Apostle features a volleyball program that introduces the sport to students beginning in the first grade.
CEF Associate Director of Development, Dr. Adrien A. López, championed the week of school tours and focused on highlighting the great work and partnership between the elementary and high schools.
“I've always said that Catholic elementary school provides the foundation for success while Catholic high school is truly the formation for college success,” said López.

“It was an amazing experience to witness a dynamic roundtable discussion between an eighth grader, a high school senior, and a trustee over lunch,” said López.
New Trustee, Dr. Susan Welsh, was eager to join us at St. Thomas the Apostle and Bishop Conaty. Expecting more of a traditional school tour focused on curriculum and instruction, she quickly experienced the true spirit of Catholic education.
“I’m completely blown away at what I saw today! The students and their excitement and engagement stood out to me the most. I also appreciated the principals and their progressive ideas of meeting the needs of today’s students,” said Dr. Welsh.
“I saw the direct impact of these families who otherwise would not be able to afford going to these schools. To actually talk to these high school students who are seniors and having choices of where they are going to go next and seeing how invested the adults on this campus were in their students’ futures, was so empowering,” Dr. Welsh added.
Having experienced a CEF school tour for the first time, Dr. Welsh was moved and encouraged others to participate in a school tour.
“Go! Go as soon as you can. You really can make such a difference. Please go and see how,” said Dr. Welsh.
