CEF Scholars Receive Full Four-Year Scholarships to College

On February 2, Sacred Heart High School seniors and CEF scholars, Judith Estrada and Alexis Herrera were awarded full four-year college scholarships from the Angels Baseball Foundation. In celebration of Catholic Schools Week and the awards, Sacred Heart High School hosted a special assembly to recognize Estrada and Herrera. Angel’s Owner, Arte Moreno, and Mark Merhab, Chairman of the Angeles Baseball Foundation, presented the students with the scholarships along with their very own Angels jerseys. The jerseys were personalized with the number 20, signifying the year Estrada and Herrera will graduate from college.

Both young women acknowledge CEF and Sacred Heart for providing them with the tools and resources that have enabled them to achieve success.

Estrada expressed that CEF made it possible for her to attend Sacred Heart, where she developed a passion for the sciences. Her future plans include becoming an engineer and sponsoring CEF programs so that other students will have access to similar opportunities.

Alexis shares a similar viewpoint.

“CEF and Sacred Heart [have] given me the ability to be a student here. So much of my success [comes from] the community that they give me, and the teachers and staff that are so dedicated to my success. There was no way I could have fallen through the cracks.”

Herrera plans to pursue a career teaching and return to her community to provide the Catholic education that she values and gives credit to for her success.
